Irrigation Water
There’s been lots of questions on when water will be delivered. Our community receives water from Pioneer Irrigation. They have posted that water will be turned into the canals on April 11th. It usually takes a little time to fill and flush lines and get things ready. The City of Caldwell plans to have all pump stations running by April 29th. It’s very important that everyone understand that due to current drought conditions, minimal irrigation storage water carried over from last irrigation season, and below normal snow pack, the 2022 irrigation season will result in the reduced delivery of irrigation water from the start of the season. Irrigation delivery will start at 70% of normal flows, and will be reduced as necessary to stretch the water supply through the irrigation season as far as they can. You can follow Pioneer Irrigation online at: http://www.pioneerirrigation.com/, and the City of Caldwell Irrigation at: https://www.cityofcaldwell.org/departments/irrigation.
As water becomes available, please make sure you are watering no more than every other day, and spreading your watering times out. If everyone waters first thing in the morning, it will draw too much on the pumps, and they will shut down. If you notice low pressure or your sprinklers not coming all the way up during the time you are trying to water, adjust your timing. Keeping the pumps running will help ensure everyone can water.
Because we seem to be headed into another drought year, The City of Nampa has formed a Drought Task Force with the goal on educating residents on ways to be water wise. They have set up an open house for tomorrow, Thursday, April 7th from 6-8pm at the Nampa Civic Center. They’ll have local lawn care expert Jos Zamzow there to share best practices for “building your lawn’s drought muscle” and answering questions.
